Norway to Shanghai

The highest-value airfreight lane in the Norwegian salmon trade, and the one with the strictest establishment control at the receiving end.

Fresh whole salmon into Shanghai is a two-day product from harvest to the wholesale floor, and almost none of the risk sits in the flight. It sits in the establishment registration, which is checked before the consignment is allowed in, and in the ground time at transit, where a box without sufficient coolant loses shelf life it never recovers. A buyer who has the registration in place and books the direct routing gets a product that competes with anything in the market; a buyer who treats either as a detail loses the consignment rather than a grade.

Frozen only. Set point and pre-cooling are specified per product and the logger is read on arrival.

Who checks it on arrival

General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC). Establishment registration is verified against the CIFER system, and an unregistered plant cannot ship regardless of the quality of the fish.

What stops a first shipment here

A plant that is approved to process is not automatically registered to export to China. These are two separate approvals from two separate authorities, and we check the second one before a request reaches the supplier.
