Regional market

Oceania

Small, high-specification and strictly biosecure. Australia and New Zealand are the hardest import permits we work with.

Oceania is a modest market by volume and a demanding one by process. Australian biosecurity rules restrict which salmonid products may enter and in what form, and New Zealand applies its own import health standards. The commercial opportunity is real — premium food service and specialty retail pay well — but the permit has to be confirmed before anything else is discussed, because the answer sometimes is that the product cannot enter at all.

Preferred product forms

  • Frozen whitefish portions for food service
  • Frozen king crab and prawn for specialty retail

Certificate and document requirements

  • Import permit issued before shipment
  • Health certificate to the exact wording of the permit
  • Biosecurity declarations for packaging materials

Transport modes

  • Reefer container, 35–45 days
  • Airfreight only where value justifies it

Typical door-to-door transit as quoted by forwarders, counted from collection at the plant to delivery at the buyer’s address, including export handling and import clearance under normal conditions. Customs holds, inspection sampling and missed connections are not included. Last reviewed 15 September 2026.
