We publish no live prices on this site. Seafood prices move weekly and sometimes daily, and a number on a public page with no volume, Incoterm or validity attached to it is not information — it is decoration that gets quoted back at you later. Every figure we send carries one of these labels.

Season calendar
Quota fisheries open and close; farmed species have harvest peaks. Planning a year of supply against the calendar rather than against last year’s price is the single change that most improves a buying programme.

What actually moves the price
Whitefish and pelagic volumes are set annually, and a quota cut announced in October changes the price of everything downstream from January. This is public information published months ahead, and it is the most under-used planning input in the trade.
For farmed salmon, standing biomass and sea temperature determine how much fish reaches harvest size in a given month. Supply is continuous but not flat, and the autumn weight peak is visible in the price every year.
In a peak week, airfreight capacity out of Oslo is the binding constraint, not fish. Reefer capacity to Asia books out before the mackerel season opens. Freight cost is part of the landed price and moves independently of the fish.
Norwegian producers cost in kroner and sell in euro or dollar. A currency move can change a landed price by more than a good negotiation ever will, and a contract that fixes the currency but not the term is only half hedged.
Regional structure
The volume market. Short lead times, EEA documentation, and buyers who expect delivery reliability over price.
Regulation-heavy and specification-driven. FDA and CFIA compliance decides whether a consignment clears, long before quality does.
The quality market. Japan and Korea pay for fat content, size grade and consistency — and reject on all three.
Fast-growing modern retail and a large reprocessing base. Halal certification and cold-chain integrity are the two gates.
Premium hospitality and re-export hubs. Halal documentation and airfreight reliability define the trade.
Built on cured products. Brazil is the world’s largest saltfish market, and it buys on tradition and appearance.
Volume protein and a long-standing stockfish trade. Payment security and freight cost, not quality grade, decide the deal.
Small, high-specification and strictly biosecure. Australia and New Zealand are the hardest import permits we work with.
The fastest-growing salmon market with the least published guidance. Hospitality demand in India leads; import licensing and airfreight routing decide who actually gets supplied.
