Brazil is Norway’s reference market for bacalhau — salted and dried cod — and a growing buyer of Norwegian salmon for São Paulo’s food service and retail. Fresh salmon arrives by air into São Paulo; frozen salmon and cured cod go by reefer container into Santos and Itajaí.
The Norwegian establishment must be listed with MAPA for export to Brazil, and consumer labelling is in Portuguese. Both are settled before a supplier is asked to quote, because a plant that is not on the list cannot ship regardless of price. Salmon in the forms this market actually buys
Each product has its own specification page — form, grade, size bands, packing, temperature, shelf life and minimum volume. State the product and the volume per delivery in the request, and the offers come back on the same basis.

Fresh by air, frozen by sea
Fresh salmon leaves Oslo by air, packed in 20 kg boxes with ice at 0 to +2 °C, and is booked for the worst-case transit rather than the scheduled one. Frozen salmon travels in reefer containers with the set point, pre-cooling and data logger specified in the contract, and the logger is read on arrival. Freight is booked and the cold chain monitored by us to the point where risk passes under the agreed Incoterm.
Typical door-to-door transit as quoted by forwarders, counted from collection at the plant to delivery at the buyer’s address, including export handling and import clearance under normal conditions. Customs holds, inspection sampling and missed connections are not included. Last reviewed 15 September 2026.
Fresh by air is normally quoted FCA Oslo Airport or CPT/CIP to the destination airport; frozen by sea FOB, CFR or CIF at the named port. DAP is possible where the seller controls the transit. The offer states the term and the named place.

Every consignment carries a health certificate issued by Mattilsynet, a commercial invoice, a packing list with lot numbers, the transport document and a temperature log. A certificate of origin is added where a trade agreement or the importer requires it. The list below is what this region and this country add on top.
